At VAMK, tasks in the energy and environmental sector are introduced in cooperation with local companies and industry. For example, through site and company visits, internships and the thesis process, the student gets to make contacts with interesting companies with an eye on his future career. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in laboratory studies carried out in cooperation with companies in the technology learning environment Technobothnia.
Teamwork is a typical way of studying and it familiarizes future engineers with the cooperation skills needed in the field. Engineering students can practice project and international skills in an international project internship. The study unit (10 ECTS) can be completed abroad in the service of an export company from Vaasa.
The goal of the education is to provide good skills to work as an energy technology expert in the technology industry as well as in the public sector.

The degree also includes freely chosen studies and language courses. All VAMK students have the opportunity to choose an exchange study or work placement from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences' network of numerous foreign partner schools. The scope of the internship is 30 credits, which corresponds to approximately five months of internship.
Internships, which are included as an essential part of the studies, are an excellent way to grow into more and more demanding tasks already during your studies and to move directly into working life after graduation. Internship in your own field promotes internalization of what you have learned, develops professional skills and familiarizes you with the operation of the organization, as well as promotes employment in, for example, an internship during your studies. In practice, energy engineering students work from the beginning of May to the end of August.
During the first two years, the student develops from a beginner to a trainee, and with advanced studies, towards the end of the studies, from a professional to an expert. The studies are built on broader work-life-oriented competence-based lines, where general and professional competencies, i.e. know-how, come together and ensure the knowledge, skills, competence, attitude and understanding needed in the profession.

VAMK serves working life effectively by ensuring high-quality, multidisciplinary practical and theoretical competence of its students and teachers, and by providing quickly flexible applied research and service activities to meet the needs of working life.
An established connection to working life is an essential part of VAMK's operations. We develop our trainings, map internships that support studies and theses topics, and conduct applied research and service activities in close cooperation with working life.
We also effectively promote the competitiveness of working life with various research and product development projects, service activities and customized further training. In addition to expert services, VAMK's up-to-date equipment and research facilities benefit our partners in implementing or testing practical applications.

Each year, approximately 400 foreign students study in our two ongoing English Degrees, and approximately 180 of our own students go abroad for exchange studies or internships.

The Bachelor’s studies in Energy Technology offer diverse opportunities to follow interesting career paths. If you still want to learn more about project management after your engineering degree and work experience, you can continue your studies in our Project Management Master´s Degree.
