The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology provides you with practical professional Business IT skills combined with an extensive theoretical base. The programme offers the most interesting areas of current IT education: software development; digital services; ICT Infrastructures, Cloud Services and Cybersecurity; and ICT and Business. In addition, the studies typically include content and practical application arranged in cooperation with partnering IT and other companies.
Other complementary study areas are also available, such as entrepreneurship, sales and service abilities. Furthermore, the programme offers general courses enhancing other skills required to successfully work in a business environment. These skills are related to areas such as teamwork, communication, and the ability to work independently.

Professional competences on the IT field and complementary areas (90 ects):
Under this section, you choose:

- Complementary studies from other IT specializations (minor subjects)
- Other professional studies from Haaga-Helia’s diverse course offering from a large set of competence areas. For example: Data Analytics, Sales, Entrepreneurship, Languages and Multicultural competences, Marketing, Service Design, Service Business
Work placement (30 ects):
Work experience on the business and ICT fields. You search for and choose a suitable traineeship, internship or job that fits to your study and career plans.
Thesis (10 ects):
This is typically a development project applying R&D methodologies that you will conduct in co-operation with companies or organizations from the IT or Business job segments. You search for and choose a suitable project topic from a commissioner organization.

Customers, vendors and organizations typically operate on international markets regardless of the size of the company. The English language is the lingua franca of ICT business. Most students will go on student exchange and some will do their work placement abroad. The students in the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology represent various nationalities from all over the world.
As a possibility to build strong competitive advantage in the European job markets, the student can also complete a Double Degree. In the Double Degree programme, the student studies one year in a partner institution and obtains two degrees when graduating. The student can apply for the Double Degree programmes during his or her fourth semester. The Double Degree studies abroad are accomplished typically during the third study year.
All students are encouraged to include exchange studies or work placement abroad in their degree.

The aim is to carry out a practical development project that then is described and analyzed in the form of the Bachelor’s Thesis. However, it is possible to write a thesis with a more theoretical approach. The thesis will typically be written during the seventh semester when most of the courses have been completed. The workload estimation for a thesis is 10 ECTS points which means 270 hours of work. The thesis shows that a student is familiar with a certain topic and she/he is capable of using basic research methods.
