Our generalist programme offers several options for major subjects (i.e., accounting, economics, finance, management and entrepreneurship, and marketing) and provides the tools, know-how, and community to develop into a research-based, practice-oriented, analytical thinker, doer, and leader. Several courses are typically taken during each period. Completing a course typically grants a number of credits based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Typically, completing one course grants you 6 ECTS and you need to accumulate about 60 ECTS during each of the three years of your study at Hanken. During the first year of the programme the curriculum is set, but starting in the second year you can choose courses based on the major you would like to pursue. The third year of the programme typically offers opportunities for exchange and / or an internship. Throughout the three years of the programme, you will also take a series of courses meant to develop your communication and language skills and important meta skills to help you navigate your studies, work, society, and life.
YEAR 1
The first year of the programme covers basic courses spanning essential business functions including accounting, finance, management, and marketing. In addition, the first-year courses also cover important competencies that you will need in the job market, irrespective of the business field you will be employed in. These competencies include mathematics, statistics, business analytics, economics, communication and languages, and meta skills for life and work.
YEAR 2
The second year of the programme paves the way towards one of the five offered majors, opening courses that are relevant if you want to further study (1) accounting, (2) economics, (3) finance, (4) management and entrepreneurship, or (5) marketing. Additional competencies are built in global sustainability, commercial law, communication, and languages and meta skills for life and work.
YEAR 3
The third year of the programme culminates with writing a Bachelor thesis in the major you are pursuing. This final year also offers opportunities for student exchange at one of our top ranked partner universities, or opportunities to work and study Finnish or Swedish, the national languages in Finland.
