Eligibility for this separate application is granted through two different ways. This separate application is intended for applicants who:
a) have previously completed at least 55 credits in a Finnish higher education institution towards a specific education or degree program leading to a Master's degree, and whose studies have been interrupted, but who aim to complete their degree. If the interrupted studies were completed at Laurea, at least one semester must have passed since the interruption.
OR
b) are pathway students at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The applicant must have completed at least 30 credits of Master's level studies at Laurea's Open University of Applied Sciences. The studies must be registered in the study register before applying. The selection criteria include academic performance. Academic performance refers not only to success in studies but also to suitability for the field, language skills, attitude towards studies, and study skills.
Selection method
The decision on student admissions is made based on completed studies and an interview. Additionally, applicants who have previously completed at least 55 credits in a Finnish higher education institution (section a.) are required to submit a motivation letter. The motivation letter should outline the reasons for applying to complete the degree and provide a plan for completing the missing studies, such as the thesis. The motivation letter is evaluated as pass/fail. In the selection interview, the applicant's motivation for the education and readiness and capability for Master's level studies are assessed. The selection interview is evaluated as pass/fail. The invites are sent via email, and the interviews are conducted on Teams.
The expiration of studies is subject to the practice outlined in section 25 of Laurea's degree regulations.
Applicants are asked to attach a copy of their degree certificate, official transcript of records, and identification document, as well as work certificates to the application. Additionally, a motivation letter is required from applicants who have completed at least 55 credits in a Finnish higher education institution (section a).
When applying for English-language education, the applicant's English language skills may be tested during the selection interview. Language skills are evaluated as pass/fail.
The offered study place must be accepted within 7 days of receiving the decision through the Opintopolku.fi service.
Applicants who started their studies at Laurea after August 1, 2015, must apply for the re-granting of study rights through a separate process if necessary.
Separate application is continuous, so you can apply as soon as the required studies have been completed. The applicant can continue his/her/their studies in the same application period when he/she/they receives the notification of admission.
Applicants must also have eligibility to apply for a master's degree programme at a University of Applied Sciences. Applicants must have a suitable bachelor's or master's degree or a University of Applied Sciences a former Finnish higher vocational qualification (opistotaso/ammatillinen korkea-asteen tutkinto) and at least two years of work experience after graduation. Work experience must be obtained before the application is filled in.
