Admissions criteria - Bachelor of Health Care, Paramedic Nurse, full-time studies, Lappeenranta


Eligibility criteria

Eligibility to apply for bachelor’s degree programme in Paramedic depends on having completed at least one of the following:

  • the Finnish matriculation examination
  • an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • a European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma
  • a Reifeprüfung (RP) diploma or Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) diploma completed in Finland
  • a Finnish vocational qualification of three years (ammatillinen perustutkinto) in duration completed after 1.8.2015.

The selection will be made on the basis of the above-mentioned diplomas only, and there is no entrance examination. A Finnish vocational upper secondary qualifications completed after 1.8.2015 are taken into account in certificate-based selection. NB: Competence-based qualifications are not taken into account in certificate-based selection.

The student must be at least 18 years old when starting the studies i.e., the student must turn eighteen by the end of August 2025.

In cases of equal minimum admission scores applicants will be ranked on the following ground:

  • all students with the same score will be selected.

Communication and interaction skills, minimum 10 points

Weighted average of the degree 35 points

Threshold criterion for the study programme

The student must be at least 18 years old when starting the studies i.e., the student must turn eighteen by the end of August 2024. 


Entrance examination

Description of entrance examinations in admissions criteria

The selection is based on the Finnish matriculation examination, the EB/IB/RP/DIA examinations and the Finnish vocational upper secondary qualifications, and there is no entrance examination.

When filling in the application form at Studyinfo.fi, in certain cases you will need to attach a copy of your certificate in order to be considered for the certificate-based selection. The following certificates have to be uploaded to your application by 29 January 2025 at 3:00 pm Finnish time (UTC+3)

  • Finnish Matriculation examination completed before year 1990
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma or Reiferprüfung (RP)/ Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) diploma
  • Finnish Vocational upper secondary qualification completed 1.8.2015 - 31.12.2016
  • Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification completed in Åland

Grades for matriculation examination taken after 1990 are obtained directly from the YTL. Certificate-based selection of vocational upper secondary qualifications of the year 2017 and later is conducted on the basis of data in KOSKI service.

If an applicant has completed the vocational qualification before 1.8.2015, the qualification will not be taken into account in the certificate-based selection and the applicant will not be eligible for selection.


Exemption from tuition fee (Does not apply to Finnish or EU/EEA citizens)

Attach a copy of your passport or residence permit card to Finland if you are applying for the exemption of tuition fee on the basis of your nationality or residence permit.

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland*
  • Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A permit issued for other than study purposes or
  • Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit or
  • EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence card in Finland (Type P-EU) or
  • EU Blue Card in Finland or
  • EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • Proof from the Finnish Immigration Services that the student has registered, or applied for registration for EU right to residence in Finland (UK-citizens) or

Brexit residence permit card, Type TEU agreement's 50 article = Right of residence under the withdrawal agreement, or P TEU-agreement's 50 article = Right of permanent residence under the withdrawal agreement

*Citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register.

Please notice: if you receive one of the documents mentioned above at any point of the admission process, please provide us the document as soon as possible. The residence permit must be valid on 1.8.2025.
