Description
The foundation of professionalism for Bachelors of Social Services is built on the socio-pedagogical approach. Bachelors of Social Services are capable of analysing social phenomena and understanding their significance to people’s lives and wellbeing. Combining pedagogical (education and learning) and social (societal) perspectives at work is emphasised in social pedagogy. The work is carried out in the daily lives of people of different ages in their own living environment. Bachelors of Social Services are also capable of taking on tasks requiring development and leadership skills, promoting the social perspective within social services as well as multiprofessionalism and networking within the overlapping areas among welfare providers.

Upon commencing their studies, all students make a Personal Study Plan (PSP), as well as a Language PSP. Those students who do not have Finnish as their native language are obliged to have obtained a working knowledge in the Finnish language (Level B1) by the time they graduate. We therefore take care to integrate language studies into all studies in accordance with the student’s Language PSP.
Please note! Work placements are carried out in Finland in Finnish language environments in order to maximise the acquisition of the Finnish language and social-services-related Finnish language skills necessary to gain work experience in Finland.
Those students who are fluent in Finnish, have broader opportunities for work placements, including an international exchange. They also familiarize themselves with language aware work approaches.
