Structure of studies
At the start of the degree, you will focus on gaining a solid understanding of the ICT industry and its basic concepts after which you will apply the acquired theory into practice. You will learn the essential skills of software engineering; building a strong foundation in core software engineering concepts, including object-oriented design, algorithms, data structures, and software architecture. Furthermore, you will delve into data analytics, machine learning and AI and learn how to design, develop, and deploy intelligent software systems.
During this English-taught degree, you will study in an international group, and working in a multicultural environment is part of the learning process. Foreign students will study the Finnish language as part of their studies. Finnish students will study certain language and communication studies in Finnish and Swedish.
The studies are worth 240 credits and take four years to complete (part-time). The degree consists of basic studies, professional studies, optional professional studies, free-choice studies, practical training and a thesis.
All new students will be required to bring their own personal laptops for their studies, take a look at equipment recommendations. It's always good to consult your teachers regarding the software and hardware requirements for your studies.
Further study opportunities
Universities of applied sciences provide further education opportunities in the form of higher university of applied sciences degrees (Master's). Graduates are entitled to engage in further education when they have acquired at least two year’s work experience in their own field. The higher university of applied sciences degree is usually accomplished while working and it takes about two years to complete.
University of applied sciences graduates can also apply to continue their studies in degrees delivered in Finnish or English at university. In addition universities and universities of applied sciences offer supplementary education as well as open university and university of applied sciences courses for deepening existing competence or acquiring new knowledge and skills.

Graduates of "Software Development in the Age of AI" will emerge as proficient software engineers with a specialized focus on AI technologies. They will be capable of building innovative, intelligent software systems that are responsive to the needs of a tech-driven world. The graduates will be able to work in public and private sectors in various software engineering tasks, such as software designers, and developers, or to start up their own business. There are also emerging opportunities: the integration of AI across industries is creating new and evolving roles!

Internationalisation
KAMK offers you an international study environment and numerous opportunities to develop your international competence during your studies. You can acquire international experience by accomplishing a part of your degree studies and practical training abroad as well as apply for a grant from KAMK for these mobility periods. International exchange is always a part of the degree studies at KAMK and does not extend your study time.

The bachelor's thesis is worth 15 credits and is written during the last study year. It is linked to the student’s own professional field, its practices and ideas for developing practice.
