Additional information

Open UAS path studies are open to all – no previous degree is required!

If you are applying to path studies in a Finnish programme, please see our Finnish website for language skill requirements: Hakukelpoisuuteen vaadittava kielitaito.

Please note that as path studies do not lead to a degree, Finnish immigration services are not likely to grant a residence permit for path studies.

After successfully completing the 1st year of studies in a program in Open UAS path studies, you can apply for a degree study right through Open UAS separate application.

Studying with us, you will participate in a lot of teamwork, laboratory work, and project work. We value problem-based learning and incorporate our students in hands-on projects from the beginning. Your learning process is supported by lectures, laboratory exercises, virtual courses, seminar presentations, and individual tutoring. Succeeding in your studies requires independent studying and taking ownership of your own studies.

The studies typically contain several real-life research and development projects that are implemented together with local companies. The students can also participate in specific courses provided by the other higher education institutes in Turku. Many students start their own businesses during their studies or select the entrepreneur's path later.

If you become a degree student after your first year of studies, you will continue in one of the following competence tracks:

  • Data Networks and Cybersecurity
  • Embedded Software and IoT
  • Game and Interactive Technologies
  • Software Engineer and Project Management
  • Health Technology
  • Data Engineering and AI

For the basic studies of the ICT programme, you will need a high-quality laptop (level 2 in Turku UAS specifications). We prefer Windows and Linux laptops; Macs and Chromebooks are not supported by our IT-services.  You must have admin rights to your laptop. You may have to acquire a course book for some courses.

Turku UAS will offer the most important basic software at your disposal for the duration of your studies free of charge, for example the Microsoft Office apps. In some degree programmes you may have to purchase some additional software at your own expense. In most of these cases, too, you’ll get a student discount on the purchase price of the software. You will be notified of the need to purchase possible additional software at the beginning of the studies.

You will get a great opportunity to build your career in any industry. Some examples of work titles of an ICT specialist are: Software and Applications Programmer, ICT Manager, Graphic and Web Designer and Illustrator, ICT Support Engineer, DB and Systems Administrator, ICT Security Specialist, ICT Business and Systems Analyst, Computer Network Professional, ICT Support and Test Engineer, ICT Sales Professional, Multimedia Specialist and Web Developer.
