Master of Engineering, Risk Management and Circular Economy

Circular economy challenges the traditional linear economy “take - make - dispose”. According to Ellen MacArthur Foundation “A circular economy is based on the principles of designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems”.

Closing the loops requires thorough managerial, professional, and strategic thinking of how to design products, processes and services and what kind of material and models should be used to achieve sustainability goals. For more radical change to happen, a paradigm shift is needed in the way things and whole systems are being designed.

After graduation from RiMCE you can:

• apply up-to-date knowledge of circular economy and risk management into your work and professional development
• identify, assess, and prioritize risks in different contexts
• develop circular economy value chains and the consumer engagement issues
• apply sustainability measurement tools (e.g. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)) for the development of more sustainable products and services
• utilize agile and lean development methodologies and design thinking for development in circular economy business
• collaborate and co create in multidisciplinary and intercultural teams and communicate responsibly and effectively both in different contexts

RiMCE studies focus on specialized knowledge of the circular economy theories, principles, and practices and how circular economy and risk management are interconnected.

The studies focus on circular economy value chains and the consumer engagement in circularity actions. Also, sustainability measurement tools (e.g. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)) for the development of more sustainable products and services are an important study contents.

During the studies the students build a financial mindset and learn to utilize agile and lean development methodologies and design thinking for development in circular economy business. RiMCE studies focus also on the innovation pipeline process and the roles of stakeholders in sustainable business openings in the company context and the role of leadership and communication when pursuing sustainability.

Master of Engineering, Risk Management and Circular Economy

The study time is 1 year, containing 3 intensive weeks at the TAMK campus. Online lectures, seminars, coworking in groups and individual tasks take place between the intensive weeks. The programme does not have the required amount of contact teaching to allow for immigration to Finland.

Master of Business Administration, Risk Management and Circular Economy

The study time is 1,5 years, containing 3 intensive weeks at the TAMK campus. Online lectures, seminars, coworking in groups and individual tasks take place between the intensive weeks. The programme does not have the required amount of contact teaching to allow for immigration to Finland.

Master's thesis is a development work prepared by using scientific research methods. The writing of the final thesis is supported by seminars where you have the opportunity to report the progress of your work and to get feedback. Master's thesis is written in English.

The graduates will be able to be managers and specialists in demanding tasks in circular economy and risk management. The degree gives a qualification for a public appointment where Master's degree is required.

Participants, with a variety of cultural backgrounds and located in different countries, bring a truly international aspects to the degree. Application of learned content happens in the students' own environment and thus in a global context.

The programme is developed together with working life representatives.

The Master's degree from TAMK provides you with the opportunity to continue onwards to Doctoral studies in other universities.
